Ubisoft DRM servers fail, taking AC2 with them

As of about 3:00 AM Ubisoft's new DRM scheme which requires all PC versions of the game to be connected to their proprietary DRM servers went down, locking out all copies of the new game Assassins Creed 2 to all paying customers. The pirated versions of AC2 are not being bothered at all, and work perfectly; DRM-free, and cracked just two days after it's initial release.

There is an active petition going on about the Ubisoft DRM issue right now, and it can be found HERE.

More information can be found at The Escapist and at Digg.

I do find it quite hilarious that DRM has now gotten so bad that only the pirated versions of the game work correctly. first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and now Assassins Creed 2 have better pirated versions than the legal version? Something is definitely wrong with this picture, and something has to change...and change fast.
